Project Zomia is a fledgling charitable project focused on Upland South and Southeast Asia. Our mission is to promote self-sufficiency for the marginalized peoples and projects of the highlands through sustainable and decentralized means.

We’re utilizing a diverse range of methods such as blockchain-based tech, alternative income sourcing, natural building, renewable energy, and fundraising to help highland communities retain autonomy.

Hill tribes are routinely discriminated against by lowland governments

Nepal

Restriction of Resources

In Nepal's 2015 earthquake, Buddhist Tamang communities suffered the majority of damage and comprised over a third of the total deaths, yet aid was diverted to majority Hindu areas.

Cambodia

Indigenous Land Theft

Government sanctioned deforestation is devastating indigenous community lands. In 2019, 1.76 acres of forest was lost every hour in a single protected forest in Cambodia.

Burma

Continual Persecution

Government forces routinely harass and persecute ethnic minorities throughout Zomia. In Burma, the Junta has been attempting to eliminate ethnic minorities for over 70 years.

Sustainable Solutions

Hill minorities share many of the same problems regardless of what country they reside in

We believe a combination of new and old technology can help mitigate many of the issues facing highland people and projects

Sustainable Building

Eco-conscious building, solar energy, and bio-gas significantly increase the capacity of communities and projects to become self-sufficient and financially stable.

Decentralized Technology

Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, and 3D printing are rapidly democratizing finance and distributing self-sufficiency like never before. We're aiming to spread these tools to as many as possible.

Alternative Income Sourcing

Crypto adoption, handicraft marketing, and recycled plastic products are just some of the ways we can bring more income to projects and communities.

Partnering with Local Projects

There are dozens of incredible projects already operating in Zomia, but often times due to remoteness or lack of exposure, these projects are under funded and under equipped.

In addition to starting our own projects, we're here to make sure that those who are doing good can keep doing good.

STAGE 1:

Detect

We are continuously seeking out communities and projects in need of assistance through social media networking and on-the-ground research

STAGE 2:

Design

After connecting with a project or individual, we assess the feasibility of an aid project, then develop personalized solutions to meet their needs

STAGE 3:

Deliver

Finally, after crafting a feasible method of helping, we can implement the proposed project, log the results, and repeat!

We believe that knowledge is power, but with great power comes great responsibility.

The world has never had a greater ability to tackle the problems faced by marginalized people than it does right now.

We're still a fledgling project, but as we grow, we will stay committed to using our knowledge to empower as many people as we can.
